WVLR in Knoxville was doing one with great success. I knew I wanted the revival they were experiencing but I also knew that I did not just want to copycat what they did. I wanted God to do it for WGNM the way He wanted to do it for WGNM and I set myself to pursue His direction.

Over the months God has shown me what to do and how to do it. He even gave me the name, “The Open Window.” It is Spirit-designed to be a river of healing for Middle Georgia. The title refers to the open window of Heaven and the open window where Daniel would faithfully pray.

They don’t call to tell me, “Good Morning, thank you for being such a great boss!” Sure enough, we were off the air.

I had Eric reboot several pieces of equipment. Nothing. I had to get my boys fed (Do they ever get full?) and off to school so that is what I focused on. When I arrived at the station about an hour-and-a-half later, I tried to get a bead on what was going on. By then I was talking to Barry, our Chief Engineer. I noticed that there was nothing lit up on the front of our microwave transmitter. Barry was now flying out the door to head to the station. I headed into our studio to praise and worship.

Once there, Barry proceeded to open the box to see if something had wiggled loose. Everything was as tight as a drum. He looked around in the device. Pulled cards out and put them back. But there was nothing to indicate that anything was any different than before. There was nothing that would tell you in the natural that it was safe to give it another try. But Barry heard the Lord say, “OK, close it and turn it on.” So Barry obeyed.

During my time of praise and worship two songs played back-to-back that let me know that everything was alright. I felt a release. I walked out of the studio to discover we were back on the air. We had less than 3 hours to go before air time.

At Noon eastern time, we launched The Open Window and God blessed mightily. We had 18 calls from our prayer line, 27 calls during the show, and 3 praise reports! We had contacts from Texas and Atlanta. The presence of the Father was very evident. We can only thank Him for allowing us to play a part in the revival that is coming to Middle Georgia and CTN.

Let’s look at that first verse more closely.

What would happen if we all used this verse as one of our filters when speaking about another ministry or Christian. Or before we “share” a prayer request…. or post on Facebook? I see some on social media, supposed believers, who foam at the mouth at the mention of certain TV ministers. It is almost as if they can’t help themselves, they HAVE to say something and it is in no way uplifting and encouraging. Unity in the body is something we all say we want but there is always that little nagging voice in the back of your head screaming, “Unless they do that… or believe that, or like that preacher.” It is easy in the broad sense to want unity but very difficult when we get down to the individual level. Unity is more important than you having your say, whether with your mouth or with your access to a computer.

Secondly, I want to look at a phrase in this verse. “Good & Pleasant”. It occurs to me that there is plenty in this life that is good, but not always pleasant. Taking nasty tasting medicine, getting a shot, eating your veggies… all of these are good, just not always pleasant. (I had a dream one night that someone handed me my brain and asked me which part I would like to lose. This was after I watched my mom separating cauliflower. I still can’t eat it.) Likewise, there are things that seem pleasant but not good… that super-sized brownie dessert, looking the other way while injustice is being done, or binge watching your favorite show on Netflix. These things may be pleasant for a while but are not good. This passage tells us that UNITY among the Body of Christ is both GOOD AND PLEASANT. The ultimate “having your cake and eating it too.”

In verse 2, we see unity likened to anointing oil. We know from our studies that oil is used to reference Holy Spirit.

Specifically, this oil is referring to the oil that was used in Exodus 30. God gave Moses the recipe for a very expensive blend of oil containing liquid myrrh, fragrant cinnamon, cane, cassia, and a gallon of olive oil. The were THE BEST SPICES. They were then used to anoint the tent, the ark, the table, the utensils and THE PRIESTS! It signified holiness. So much so that anyone who touched the utensils would be considered holy. These items and men were consecrated for a holy purpose. They were set apart. One of the things that should set the body of Christ apart is our unity. We are Consecrated for Unity.

There is another thing I see in this verse; notice that it references pouring the oil on the head and beard. But then it says that when they poured the oil on Aaron’s beard it also ran down onto his robe. I wonder if they had started skimping on the oil used to anoint the priests. Are we doing the same with our Five-fold ministry today? Are we expecting them to do a “down to the hem of the garment” ministry but only resourcing them for the head and beard?

Moving on to Verse 3 we see another result of unity, but we don’t really have a reference point to understand it. It mentions that unity among the brethren is like the dew of Mount Hermon falling on Mount Zion. First, let’s look at what dew does. It breaks the heat of the day. It brings moisture that is absorbed directly into plants giving immediate nourishment. We know that some areas are more humid others are more arid. That is the picture being communicated here. I looked up the elevation of different areas and Breckenridge, CO is close to the same conditions as Hermon and Tucson, AZ is similar to Mount Zion (or Jerusalem.) Imagine if the moisture of Breckenridge were to suddenly appear in Tucson? Can you imagine the instant effects? The cool rush would be something akin to the ice bucket challenge. The long term effect would change the climate. It would change the soil conditions and what could be grown there. Unity is like that. It is a sudden burst of cool, moist air when you are hot and dry. It brings with it prosperity. When we, as the body of Christ begin to act in unity, it will affect our whole community.

The last part of verse 3 tells us that as we pursue unity among the brethren, God will command a blessing in that place. Imagine the impact of the Church reaching Middle Georgia for Jesus. The impact we can have together is much greater than if we waste time and energy tearing each other down. As we become God’s place of commanded blessing we will not only see spiritual revival, but an economic one as well. This should be tremendous motivation for us to pursue unity. As we begin to achieve this, we will see the Lord’s commanded blessing to come on our lives and impact the communities around us.

We pray with people through our Prayer Request Line. We give to those in need through our "Love Basket". We teach and preach the Word of God and help those ministries who want to do the same. We exist to help meet the needs of others.

And maybe that is the problem.
In deference to the needs we have been meeting I have neglected to share the needs of this ministry. Maybe it is pride on my part. Invariably a ministry will take on the character and characteristics of the leader. I have never liked asking for help. I love to give it, though.

So here I am, letting you know the needs of the ministry. We need help. And we need it in divine portions.

Telethon is upon us. That time, twice a year, when we let you know what we are doing as a ministry and give you the opportunity to give as well. The time when the bulk of our donations and pledges come in for support. Our CTN Headquarters in Clearwater, FL will be inundated with calls from all over the country and a good portion of Middle Georgia. The support will come in. God will provide. He always does.

The problem we are having right now is that our digital transmitter, the most powerful in Middle Georgia, is not doing well. Actually, it is fine, it is the antenna and the pipe that connects it to the transmitter have burned out. It is a pretty big deal. Telethon is approaching and we can barely get a low-power signal to Cox Cable and DISHTv. The ever growing "over-the-air" viewing audience can't get us either. ... Did I mention, telethon is coming?

On top of that, an air conditioning unit at the transmitter broke down. Needed a new compressor. Eight days after getting it fixed, the AC unit on our Master Control Room died as well. Same problem. Did I mention that telethon is coming?

Needless to say, I have been in a "funk". I have felt like Gideon. The weakest member, of the weakest clan, of the weakest tribe. Did I mention telethon is coming?

But then I got some encouragement. Like most encouragement, it sent me to the Word. I study the story of Gideon. It occurs to me, that our situation with the transmitter is like Gideon and his army. You see, God realized that Gideon's Army was huge in numbers. He kept thinning out the crowd until just 300 were left. That way there was only one answer to explain the victory. The glory would go to God and God alone. In the natural, at full-power, our signal is huge. Right now, our signal is weaker that it has ever been. It would take a miracle for us to do well in the telethon with this few people watching. So that is what we will expect. We have no other choice but to let God do this.

Starting Monday night at 6:00 PM Eastern, we are going Gideon on a Telethon! Did I mention telethon is coming?
Why would we want to be on TV?”

I hear this from pastors and church media types quite a bit and, on the surface, I understand. My answer, though, is not easy to hear.

The internet is arguably the greatest invention of our time. You can research a college paper on Quantum computing or watch videos of cats falling into toilets. It has changed the way we live our daily lives. It has changed the way we work, play and even the way we worship.

It has also changed the way television stations operate. When I started in television, programs were delivered on tape. Usually the ¾” variety and occasionally the new upstart format of Beta. (Although I have also used a 1” tape machine and I worked with some photographers in a newsroom who remembered having to go out and shoot film.)

Now, most of our programs are delivered via the internet using File Transfer Protocol. It has made it easier for ministries (at least technologically) to partner with us to spread the Gospel.

Then came the ability to stream church services LIVE via the internet and offering Video-on-Demand copies of sermons. This is still a fantastic tool. Pastors love to tell you how many people are watching their streaming services and how far away those people are. I'm not against using the internet. We even use it here at CTN. I love to tell people that we have documented viewers in Norway and Turkey!

However, I have to come back to another question: To whom are you connecting when all you do is stream? How many are regular members/attenders? Shut-in members? Military members? Related to the Pastor?

Now ask yourself how many new people (people who never knew your church existed before) tune in to your live service on the internet? I would wager that the bulk of the people watching your stream and viewing your downloads are members/attenders or have had some kind of contact with your church.

For all of the wonders of the internet, one of the things it is horrible at is reading your mind. What image comes to your mind when you think of “chair”? Now search for chair images on Google. I just did it and got 336,000,000 results and NONE of the chairs presented looked anything like what I had in mind (especially the ones from IKEA).

Now if you are looking for a specific chair, say a “recliner”, you are going to get more specific results. Some that are fairly similar to what those images you had in mind.

It is the same when people are searching for a church. So how can you stand out? How can you find that one person who does not know that your church exists and drive them to your website? Television.

Television has the ability to reach those the internet can’t reach. Those who have chosen to cut the cable and only get their video “over the air”. In fact, the number of people doing just that is not only increasing but getting younger. A recent scan through the “over-the-air” channels here in Macon, GA revealed 17 separate channels available for FREE!

In Luke 15, Jesus gives us the Parable of the Lost Sheep. He describes leaving the 99 sheep in favor of the 1 sheep who was lost. I think we get too tied up in the numbers of 1 vs. 99. Jesus was more concerned about their state of being. He was talking about the condition of their spirit. Their “lost-ness” or their “found-ness”. In vs. 3 He tells us that the 99 have no need of repenting. Our Good Shepherd wants to be where there is a need of repentant sheep. He was moved, not by numbers, but by spiritual need.

You see, what it comes down to, for me at least, is that streaming live services is an effective tool for reaching out to the sociable few. Broadcasting reaches the lonely millions.

They are looking, they are lonely, and they are watching television.

Now, why wouldn't you want to be on television?

<span style="font-family: "Georgia","serif"; font-size: 16.0pt;">Most
men may not admit it, but women scare us. Think about it; name a guy who will
look into his wife’s purse without permission? When my wife asks me to get
something from her purse, I just take it to her. I hate looking in there. It
seems so disorganized. Which one is the “front” pocket? Exactly which prison
will she need to escape from that she thinks she has to carry a file THAT big?

<span style="font-family: "Georgia","serif"; font-size: 16.0pt;">Sticking your hand in there reminds you of every movie where the hero has to
pass some sort of test by sticking his hand in a dark place (usually a tree
stump) that serves as the nest for some venomous creature. If the creature
bites, he dies. It is always a miracle when he gets to fight another day.

<span style="font-family: "Georgia","serif"; font-size: 16.0pt;">While
that example may be exaggerated a bit, the fear that it alludes to is very
real. It is a fear that has been exploited by the enemy to restrict us from
doing what God has called us to do. And that is to be men. We have believed the
lie that there are men’s issues and women’s issues and that the two should never
meet. We have fallen to the lie that abortion is a woman’s issue when nothing
could be further from the truth.

<span style="font-family: "Georgia","serif"; font-size: 16.0pt;">We
will start where God started with all of this, before the worlds were even
formed. God, the Father, conceived of each of us in His mind before he even had
a place for us to live. He knew each of us by name. He also knew that, because
of sin, we would enter this realm broken. A stain so thick and pervasive that
nothing could remove it. He saw us for what we would be. Fatherless. And so, in
that blink of an eye He knew He would need to provide a way for us to become
His sons. He sent His Son Jesus to seal the deal. Adoption! It is by the gift
of adoption that we are able to call ourselves the Children of God. We get to
cry Abba, Father! In adoption, the Father is celebrated. The child is given a
new name. A heritage. Even Jesus’ genealogy listed in Matthew follows the path
of His adopted father. Through adoption, fatherhood transcends biology. Our
spiritual adoption into the Heavenly Father’s family transcends the spiritual slavery
we were born into and sees us as sons.

<span style="font-family: "Georgia","serif"; font-size: 16.0pt;">But
where adoption seeks to connect the father and child, abortion seeks to reduce
and desecrate the role of a father to a mere inconvenience. An invasion. It
sees men as mere biological donors. So, men are told to stay out of this. They
are told that abortion is a decision between the woman and her doctor. Who
decided that the doctor was more important than the father? All those years of
medical school can’t wipe out the connection between father and child. The sad
part is that we have let the enemy get away with this. We fell for the lie that
this is a woman’s issue.

<span style="font-family: "Georgia","serif"; font-size: 16.0pt;">It
is a human issue. It is a human child that is growing in the womb. We live in
an age where endangered animals get more protection in the womb than humans. There
is a defenseless life that is at stake. Are we men enough to stand in the gap
for them?

<span style="font-family: "Georgia","serif"; font-size: 16.0pt;">So
what do we do? How should we handle this?

<span style="font-family: "Georgia","serif"; font-size: 16.0pt;">First,
we must rid ourselves of the fear. We cannot allow someone else to dictate
whether or not we are allowed in this discussion.

<span style="font-family: "Georgia","serif"; font-size: 16.0pt;">Secondly,
educate yourself on the issue. Once you get to be a part of the discussion,
make sure you have a valid point.

<span style="font-family: "Georgia","serif"; font-size: 16.0pt;">Next,
temper everything with the love of Christ. We can’t scream at people and expect
them to listen. Remember, the woman having the abortion or the post-abortive
woman is a person, too. Our fight is with the abortion business and the spirit
of death behind it.

<span style="font-family: "Georgia","serif"; font-size: 16.0pt;">And
lastly, train up Godly young men in our churches who won’t back down but will
speak the truth with love. This is not going to be solved overnight. We will need to pass the torch to the next generation of men to carry on.

<span style="font-family: "Georgia","serif";">Back in college,
when I still knew everything, I got blindsided with a truth that has stuck with
me all these years.

<span style="font-family: "Georgia","serif";">One of my
broadcasting classes was visited by the owner of a local radio station. During
our discussion he asked the question, “What do radio/TV stations sell?”

<span style="font-family: "Georgia","serif";">I immediately
began to channel my inner-Arnold Horshack, “Ooh, ooh, I know the answer, they
sell TIME!” I rested back in my chair with a smug grin on my face. I just knew
that he would be so impressed with my knowledge and rapid hand-raising skills
that he would give me a job. Boy, was I wrong.

<span style="font-family: "Georgia","serif";">He looked at me
as if he knew that someone in the class would say that. He had found his mark.
He trained his “bless his heart” smile in my direction. “No,” he said. “They
sell access to an audience.”

<span style="font-family: "Georgia","serif";">It made sense,
instantly.

<span style="font-family: "Georgia","serif";">Essentially,
broadcasters sell buyers (advertisers) access to a specific audience for a
brief moment in time (usually 30 – 60 seconds). In fact, stations are usually
required to air “make goods” if not enough members of pre-defined specific
groups watch or listen to a program. (That is the whole reason for Neilsen and
Arbitron ratings to exist.) It is the access to the audience that is being
sold. This is also the driving force behind getting you to follow shows or
networks on social media sites.

<span style="font-family: "Georgia","serif";">It occurred to
me that when I watch “free” television, I am being sold! When you watch
television, you and your family, are being sold!

A little over a week ago, we participated in the National Day of Prayer observance here in Macon, GA. Truly a great time was had by all.

As a member of the committee that puts all of the day's events together, I can safely say that we are always relieved at the great turnout of people that show up for both the breakfast and the noon rally. We like to remind people that, regarding prayer, it is not about a day, it is about a discipline. How very true that is. But something else I noticed will take longer than a day, much prayer, and great discipline to accomplish.

As I looked around the room I saw something that, a few decades ago, was not commonplace (and in some circles banned). People with different shades of skin tone were eating, fellowshiping, and worshiping together. Probably much more so than they would be the following Sunday, or this coming Sunday. This bothers me. It disturbs my spirit and I think it pains the heart of God.

Past attempts at "coming together" or unity or some sort of racial reconciliation forced from the top down have never gotten us anywhere. What we need is a spirit-led grass roots effort to tear down the walls of distrust that we have allowed to be built up.

We are guilty of letting "Us vs. Them" politics creep into "Us vs. Them" religion. This blog, this man, this station does not purport to know all the answers or, for that matter, even all of the questions. But I do know a couple of things:

We need to pray. The start of any endeavor requires prayer. And as much as we ask, we need to listen to our Father in Heaven.

We need an understanding that if we, as the Body of Christ, cannot get it right on the subject of race then NO ONE can get it right.

We need leaders. Not showboating, grandstanding, hate-bearing "wannabe's".

We need a heart change in Middle Georgia. Memorize Ezekiel 36:26 "...and I will remove from you your heart of stone and give you a heart of flesh." and keep it in our minds and on our tongues at all times.

My solemn prayer is "Lord, show me what to do. Give me the strength, courage, and power to see it through."
Check Your Spellcheck, Pal!We are launching out into a new area for us by creating a Station Manager's Blog.

So
why the name "Altar'd Reality"? And why did we spell it that way? Well,
I'm going to answer the second question first; Altared Reality looked
to much like Alta Red and that sounds more like an attack group of Space
Rangers than a blog.

So, "Altar'd Reality". What
does that mean? Simply put, once you have been to the altar and laid
everything at the feet of Christ you can fully experience reality.

What
will this blog be about? Everything...as it relates to the advancement
of the Kingdom of Christ in Middle Georgia and how WGNM is involved in
that. Some of it will encourage you, some of it will frustrate
you. Quite frankly, sometimes it will make you want to fashion a whip
& start turning over tables and chairs.

Feel free to
join in the conversation. Keep it clean & respectful and if it is
not going to advance the Kingdom of Heaven keep it to yourself.Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01539123747320878292noreply@blogger.com1
